  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • have a varied role over the course ..... for example handfitting, machining, welding, lathes, miling, mechanical, elctrical, PLC's. Each of these have at least four weeks to be leanrt and a number assesments is then made to test what i have leanrt. This allows me to check if what ive learnt will be remebered. On a day to day its usually practice, practice and more practice. This is because the more you od somthing the better youll be at it. Therefore meaning when i pass the course i will have the neccesary information and experince to do my final placement job

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i Have learnt exciting new techniques and processess through the continued practice of engineering. This is done through btec via the birmingham metroplitan college aswell as working hands on in the workshop with fully qualified and experinced trainers. By working with others, my teamwork skills have also increased as my co workers and i had to help each other in order to progress

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program i feel is very testing at times and a lot of effort is needed to be put in, in order to pass. This will mkae the feeling of passing seem ever better as i know i would deserve it. Also the work colleagues were of a similar age and also had similar interests making my time during the apprenticeships enjoyable and fun. I also feel the company provided me with help and guidance for the duration of the course thereby helping me to pass successfully

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Started off poorly organised in terms of placement but after a switch of managers this was sorted and is now significantly improved. In terms of Btec, the assignments and tests are hard to keep track of as the chedule is so tight but this cannot be altered and lots of work at home is needed. This however is not a bad thing as during an appprenticeships its all about learning

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The apprenticehsip shceme offers and qualification and job experience for little to no cost at all. The wage the apprentices are given is one of the best in the country aswell ... making it worth the while. There i also a car scheme which you are immidiately elligable for which allows you to drive a range of BMW's and mini's for a reduced cost. although this may not be suitable for people living in their own as house prices around oxford are high

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes careers fairs, charity work, race team and external qualifications can also be achieved if you apply for it and are willing to work for it. Although you will have to ask for it and show you deserve it. This can be done by acheiving all of your targets and being a model student to the managers and trainers in chrage of it

  • 9. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because i feel the company offers exciting experince in the industry and also provides a qualifivation in this chosen field which can be used to progress within the company and the engineering field. Also apprenticeships offer a qualifivation free of charge and also offers the experinec of the job which a univeristy doesnt.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I would say only take the apprenticeship if you are willing to work hard both at home and at work. This is because the sheer workload given is a lot to handle and may get on top of some people not fully comitted. However all of this work will be worth it in the end as you will get a very good and well paid engineering job
