I am a mature maintenance apprentice in my first year. Day to day i'm in the workshop completing an NVQ and also a BTEC level 3 in engineering. We learn lots of skills such as pneumatics, hydraulics, handfitting and welding. It will change next year, when we go out on plant to complete our placements in the industry.
As I am a mature apprentice, that has worked for BMW for many years, I already have many existing skills however I am now learning new industry techniques and procedures that will benefit me in my placements next year. The engineering industry is constantly developing which the apprenticeship prepares us for.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticehsip as it has allowed me to meet young, passionate engineers that are the future of BMW MINI. It is very enjoyable to meet people with new perspectives and attitudes towards the business. We complete many interesting activities in the workshop as well as going out on plant to undergo jobs.
I feel extremely valued by BMW as they've allowed me to complete this apprenticeship in order for me to develop in the business and progress. I will also be learning all of the new technology that will be used on Plant in the future. We are given many responsibilities by the company.
The apprenticeship is very well organised. On a monday we complete a level 3 BTEC in the classrooms and for the rest of the week we are in the workshop completing the 3 different rotations. The three are electrical, Mechanical and hand fitting. In the workshop we have lots of equipment used on plant which prepares us for our next few years of the apprenticehsip.
We receive plenty of support from our training supplier. In the workshop we have four tutors that provide us all of the necessary training material and support. They are all more than happy to help us if we get stuck in an activity. They all come from different engineering backgrounds so give us lots of tips from their experiences.
We receive lots of support from our employer. If we need anything they are happy to help us and will support us with any of our needs. Our employer provides us with plenty of oppurtunities that will support us through the apprenticeship and expand our contacts around the plant.
The salary is a very good salary for an apprenticeship. We get pay reviews every 6 months and if we are completing all of our work we are almost guranteed them. It is a good salary as they are paying for our qualifactions and providing us with lots of work experience.
There are a wide range of oppurtunities provided by the company, outside of work. There are many charity events and open evenings that we get involved with after work and at the weekends. There is an annual family day onsite where we bring all of our family and friends on plant to see where we work.
Yes
It is a great company to work for as they offer us so many benefits such as the car scheme where we have accesss to brand new BMW's and MINI's. We gain years worth of work experience as well as gaining our qualifactions which allow us to progress through the company.
I would suggest bringing a project that you've worked on, relating to engineering to talk extensively about. You should sell yourself and present what is different about you as most of the candidates will have similar grades.
