I am a Technical Apprentice. I am not currently within the company itself, for the timebeing I am at college.
I am working on a Lvl 3 Extended Diploma in Technical Support, as well as a BTEC Diploma in Engineering. It has developed my knowledge of engineering practices, as well as improve my basic communication and presenting skills.
Although I am aware it was not possible, I would rather have been taught on site rather than being full time at college. It currently isn't as enjoyable as I'd hoped, but will pick up once I finish college.
I do feel well valued by BAE Systems, although we are out of the loop as such, we are still fed information on the goings on within the company. It also ensures that we have no problems on a regular basis.
I have been made well aware of what I am working towards, and that structure has been laid out clearly. We have regular meetings with our training supervisor and college tutor to ensure we are staying on the correct path and getting work done.
As said we have regular meetings where we discuss how I am getting on, to make sure I know what I am working towards and how to do that safely and ethically. Any issues are addressed and I am guided along the correct path.
There are also meetings with HR and the union representative to cover the same things as our training provider but at a higher level. Any issues we have can be discussed and hopefully resolved.
As I rent and commute daily, it just covers my food, travel, rent and internet. But my parents have to subsidise my council tax and houshold bills.
Yes, but since we are college it is harder to get involved with them right now.
Yes
Because overall the experience is good, and we will come out with much better employability skills than those who just go to university.
To know about the company and what it does, as it will help to know what role you wish to play within the company and shows that you are eager to be a part of it.
