Trainee substation engineer. Current day to day activities include site shadowing and taking part in maintenance activities, attendance at university for foundation degree, and attendance at National Grid technical academy.
Lots. Technical knowledge on substation equipment, academic knowledge from university, and soft skills such as management.
A lot. Very rewarding and good working environment. Made many new friends and contacts within the industry. Can be quite difficult at times and workload very intense however it is very rewarding having achieved a foundation degree whilst working full time.
Feel valued. Wellbeing, both physical and mental is continually monitored by company. Currently in full time training but am aware that the role we will be entering is highly valued with considersble responsibilty and is safety critical.
Very well structured. Planning is done well in advance with few alterations. Programme is very intense and can be away from home for some time which can be difficult, especially for more mature trainees with commitments outside of work.
Not sure, haven't asked for any support.
Not too sure. Haven't asked for any support.
Very well. Excellent salary for just training with great perks. However, the salary does reflect the amount of hard work.
Some, but not aware of many.
Yes
Excellent company to work for with fantastic prospects and invest heavily in staff.
Be prepared for the workload and time away from home. Much harder than being a full time university student but it comes with a degree without debt.
