Running the store, ensuring everyone has something to do and ensuring it’s being done correctly. Making sure everyone is given correct training so that they can carry out their job. Sometimes running the safe which means handling all cash in the building as well as managing the tolls on the shop floor
I have learnt to appreciate how to manage people, thing to consider when speaking to them. Provide training to those who need it and watch them develop. Manage conflict and remain impartial and step in when necessary
The programme is brilliant but I believe if you go to Aldi with the right approach, work hard have a positive outlook on work and the challenges there then whether you’re an apprentice or not, you will succeed
Very much so, this point is dependent heavily on the people around you... your managers
Some moments where there seemed to be poor organisation (eg where First4Skills went bust, there was a long quiet patch and very little info provided) but in general it was good, again this depends on your assessor and how good they are
Lots, no issues
Lots, no issues (probably more support than I deserve at times!)
Very good, first year is tougher due to the lowest wage but final year is brilliant, never come across another apprentice earning as much
With regards to doing things in my spare time; of course shift work will impede on this but I haven’t missed out greatly. 2 days off a week means there not much difference to any other job
Yes
Would recommend Aldi but not the apprenticeship, as a growing business they have always identified people as the priority in order to succeed so if you want to be a part of a reputable retailer then Aldi has to be the answer
Don’t expect an easy ride, if you want the best wages in the industry then you have to be the best in the industry. Training provided needs to be listened to and if you can do that then you’ll love what you do. Also, whether you want to be a manger or director or wherever.. get involved with the numbers and how your store is doing, it’s extremely interesting!
