The roles which I completed during my time on the programme were varied. The titles include cashier, personal banker, assistant branch manager and governance & control manager. The majority of my time was spent in a branch servicing customers.
BA Hons Degree. Skills learnt on the role include talking to customers, the working of a branch and how the first line of defence within a bank works.
I did not enjoy the roles completed within the branches of the banks. It did not meet my expectations but did provide me a platform to further my career.
In my current role I feel valued. During my time on the apprenticeship I didn't no feel a great level of being valued. I was exposed to with wider tasks but this varied between roles.
Organisation was poor. The programme transitioned multiple times during my experience and the what we could expect from the apprenticeship also kept changing. There was sufficient time to study and the lectures were responsive. However, the team who organised the programme were not. There was little to no support when rolling off the programme.
The training providers/lectures were available via email throughout the year. Although there was not a great deal of face to face time in the latter stages.
Not a great deal of support. You had to keep re-educating every manager/colleague of your needs whilst on the programme (particularly when getting time off to study).
Whilst on the programme the pay is very low, you do receive London weighting and you have the opportunity for a degree free of charge. For me, this value for money.
If you are based in the HQ then yes, if you based in the branch network then no.
Yes
I would not necessarily recommend the apprenticeship experience I had but I am aware a lot of this concerns have been addressed. However, having stayed on at Barclays I would recommend as there is room for progression and growth.
Ensure you read up on the values that Barclays adhere to, if they provide you a pack of 'competencies' your interview questions will be around these so have examples to hand.
