The Siemens Finance and Commercial Academy is a rotational placement scheme. I undertake 4 six month placements in the first two years and then a 12 month placement in my final year. The Day to day vary depending on the placement however they can involve such roles as downloading and analysis reports, budgeting and cost analysis.
During my time on the Siemens Finance and Commercial Academy I have been working towards my CIMA Qualification and also my Level 4 National Diploma in Management Accounting. As well as this external training, I have also been on some internal training courses to improve skills such as Excel and Presentation skills.
I see myself as very lucky to be given this opportunity on the Siemens Finance and Commercial Academy where I get to study toward my professional qualifications whilst working full time and not getting in an debt for my tuition fees.
Even though Siemens in such a large company and you come onto the scheme reasonably inexperienced, everybody in the teams I have worked in are extremely helpful at helping me out in my role. You very quickly settle into your role within a placement and can see how the work you are doing is benefiting and helping the team around you.
As mentioned before the scheme is split up into numerous placements over the three year scheme. These placements are organised far in advance and you receive lots of support from your manager when looking into your second and third year placements and what type of roles you are interested in. Our CIMA studies are also very well structured alongside this.
BPP is our training provider for both the National Diploma and for the CIMA Studies. They provide us with plenty of material to help us with our studies. We are fortunate to receive Day release to go study face to face in a centre with a tutor. All of whom are extremely helpful during and after the course in the lead up to the exam.
We receive plenty of support from Siemens. We are lucky to get day release to go to college for courses and also get a few days study leave in the lead up to exam which proves to be invaluable. As CIMA is the preferred qualification of the company, I have found myself surrounded by people studying CIMA at different levels to myself who provide great support and help in the lead up to exams.
It is a completive salary for an entry level apprenticeship role.
There are opportunities outside of work to participate in a range of events.
Yes
Siemens finance and commercial academy is a great alternative to university as you get invaluable work experience whilst studying towards an internationally recognised qualification.
Relax and be yourself in the assessment centre, they are aware that you would not have gained much work experience however they are looking for someone who is willing to learn and keen for a career in finance.
