My typical day as an audit varies from role to role and what stage of the audit I am in. Due to the nature of auditing, how busy the day is can vary depending on the stakeholders. At peak times its flat out working most of the day, and in the quiet times, when awaiting the stakeholder’s response, I either clean-up work documents or catch up on learning.
I have gone from not even knowing what an auditor is to being able to carry out fieldwork and starting to documenting. In terms of qualifications not much as of yet, as they do not start until June, however in terms of real world skills I have learnt a lot.
I find it very enjoyable. The actual work can be very interesting, the company culture is very progressive (work from home days whenever I want, although typically once per week) and my team is great. Very supportive, they set me tasks that are challenging, but not so overwhelmingly difficult that it is stressful.
Yes - getting good recognition, especially from my mid-year review. Everyone understand I have 0 experience so take the time to explain, allowing me to improve, without seeming like an inconvenience to their time. Then they provide useful feedback, positive and ways I can improve the next time, then follow up and give good feedback when I show improvement.
Very poor. These past 9 months has been in limbo, whilst other departments have been very organised, we have been told well the plan is this, but we have to get this authorized and are in talks with the government and the budget departments. Just last week I finally found out what my next 2 years will be like, although after feedback from us they are trying to propose more qualifications from the budget department.
Have not started training yet. N/A
Good support. After some line manager issues due to the old one leaving, its good, have monthly catch ups with my apprentice line manager, and with my audit line manager I have official meetings every month, although we bump into each a lot. All my team are very supportive with my improvement, as mentioned above.
London allowance just covers my season tickets. Can afford to live and enjoy myself, although have to live with parents. However, with my end of year review, if it goes well I get moved up a pay grade and get a bonus, which whilst I do not know the amount, I am hoping it would cover cost if I were to move out.
Yes - I have been able to access many opportunities outside of the work place, from teaching a lesson to school kids, to helping with a careers fair in the Excel arena to joining the social committee and helping to organised socials, and attend them. There have been many more activities, such as taking part in a sailing race down the Thames on a dragon boat which I have been unable to attend but I have had the opportunities.
Yes
Whilst this year's cohort due to the changes as mentioned above, I would not recommend, next year's should be much smoother, and all the other departments have not been having an issue.
For the assessment, come well prepared, and know the values as well as personal examples that reflect how you live the values to memory, and try and slip them in whenever is appropriate. The application process whilst long winded is self-explanatory, so as long as you persist, you should be alright.
