The job title of my role is a Finance apprentice within Treasury finance. Some of my daily tasks include profit and loss reporting which consists of analyzing figures from trades made the previous day and checking all trades have fed through the reporting systems correctly. I work closely within all members of my team and sstakeholders such as traders and the risk team. As I am in Treasury I don't have much interaction externally as all stakeholders are internal. My responsibilities include delivering reports and P&L before the deadline date, attending college sessions and completing exams and applying full effort into all tasks. I am currently involved in ring fencing the retail bank from the investment bank due to UK regulation. I am involved in pilot testing and checking for any issues with the reporting files and books that the trades are booked in.
I am currently working towards my AAT level 2 qualification. I have developed my skills in using excel and powerpoint as they are used widely within the company. I have developed my communication and problem solving skills whilst working here.
I enjoy working with a wide variety of people. I enjoy the work culture as it is a friendly place where everyone is willing to help. The company are genuinely interested in my development and that I succeed within my role which is encouraging.
I feel like my time here is valued both by my team and as the company as a whole. Everyone is treated equally and my opinions are taken into consideration.
The course is very structured, There are specific people who deal with specific parts of the course so it is easy to know who to go to when you have a specific query. The studying part of the course is setup and well timed according to the role and the team are well aware of the days that are required to be taken off due to college days or exams. There is always someone willing to offer support.
The training provider checks in regularly to ensure things are running smoothly and that there are no problems. They tend to be very knowledgeable on any query I have and have a positive attitude every time I come into contact them. The tutors are very helpful and go through content whilst bearing in mind people may be beginneres to the course.
My Manager and team are very supportive about my days away from work to attend college, and the HR team assist with any queries I have.
I am able to save up whilst keeping up with living costs however it would be beneficial to see some kind of travel package as travel costs into canary wharf are ridiculously high.
There are many volunteering events to take part in and also many training events that are optional both internally and externally. There are also many social events such as football etc
Yes
It is a rewarding and motivating job and also enables me to grow and develop. There are many opportunities and great scope to go further.
I would encourage people to be themselves and relax as Barclays are not interested in tripping anyone up they just want to know about the real you.and do a lot of backround reading. On the Assessment day your teamwork is tested so focus on how you are communicating with fellow candidates
