  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is completely varied day-to-day depending on the client I am working with and what the aim of the project is. Working in Technology Consulting, the projects I have been a part of typically involve working with large clients to manage and deliver transformation through technology. My typical role has included project management activities, organising and engaging in client meetings, and contributing to key project deliverables.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed countless skills since the outset of my Apprenticeship, both in terms of my technical knowledge and ability through internal and external training, but equally my ability to demonstrate key traits associated with Consulting. Deloitte offer an extensive list of internal training courses, as well as a willingness to support external training certifications. I feel that there is a real investment in people at Deloitte.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my job! It was a risk when I chose to take this path, not knowing what working at one of the Big Four Professional Services firm would really be like. However I am so glad I took the leap and am amazed by how far I have come. The responsibility I have been given over time has really surprised me and something I am really proud of, the fact that I chose an Apprenticeship route over University has not held be back in the slightest.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • I feel extremely valued by Deloitte. Since the outset of the Apprenticeship programme I feel that Deloitte has invested significantly in myself and my intake, particularly in terms of the investment made in the quality and length of training provided to us. As well as this, I feel that the support network set up for the BrightStarts is outstanding, and I feel fully supported in my career here. The leaders I have worked with have built my confidence, and I have even been announced as a finalist for a national award through my manager championing my work!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Deloitte side of the Apprenticeship has been well organised, and as mentioned the learning offered to us has been amazing. However the actual JMC Apprenticeship had some significant teething issues during our intake as there were times when the criteria required to progress through the Apprenticeship were extremely unclear and undefined. However as we were the first intake to progress through the JMC Apprenticeship programme, I appreciate that an element of trial and error was required. The main issue with the disorganisation of the programme came from the uncertainty around how we complete the End Point Assessment, and it was disheartening that we were progressing through a programme that had not been fully planned out. However, now I have completed the programme I am very pleased to have achieved a Distinction and feel it was worthwhile.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • BPP were very helpful in delivering the content for the four modules of the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting we undertook. I found the exams relatively easy to pass thanks to the training BPP provided. However, in terms of the with JMC Apprenticeship activities, which required writing a series of essays to evidence where we have fulfilled a list of Learning Objectives in our day-to-day work, there was significant uncertainty as to what was required of us and there was a lack of clarify provided by BPP as to what we should be doing. This was eventually resolved, and I have now completed my JMC Apprenticeship with a Distinction.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Deloitte provided sufficient support in completing the JMC Apprenticeship, in terms of organising our study with our training provider BPP, and allowing time off for study. However I felt that there could have been more communication between Deloitte and BPP in order to provide better clarification as to what was required of us at certain stages of the Apprenticeship. Overall Deloitte provided an amazing range of support, particularly a dedicated Coach who guided me through the whole JMC process.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At the moment my salary package is sufficient for me to support my current lifestyle. However that is only because I am relying on living at home and commuting into London for work. I would not be able to afford to move out at the moment and maintain my current lifestyle based on my current salary package.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are an outstanding range of opportunities outside of work. Deloitte make a huge effort to organise company events and activities, including a wide range of societies and networks. Above all, Deloitte are extremely generous and thoughtful in the amount of socials that are arranged and fully catered for - the social life is better than any other company I have heard of. As well as this, the agile working policy Deloitte offers is amazing - definitely one of the best policies Deloitte promotes. I feel like my work/life balance is at a perfect level, and the time out policies Deloitte offers will allow me to not miss out on travelling opportunities I thought I might not be able to take because I had not gone to University.

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Deloitte puts its people first. And I feel completely valued as an employee here. I honestly love my job. There is so much opportunity to explore new things, and enough variety to always keep the job interesting. However, equally even though Deloitte is such a big company I feel really valued as an individual through the investment Deloitte makes in me,

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Be yourself. In Consulting, it is your personality that carries you. Also it is amazing that there are so many opportunities here to find out what you really like and explore that area. Working for such a big company offers opportunities in every sector you could imagine across every location you could imagine, and the diversity of people and work is what is really amazing about working at Deloitte Consulting.
