As an Engineering Technician Apprentice, my role is to complete placements in various departments across the plant. This includes Body in White, the Paint shop and Assembly. During placememnts I have many objectives that I aim to complete. Firstly, understanding what the department I'm in does as a whole as well as the individual roles of the associates in that department. This involves shadowing team members and supporting in projects as well as leading projects. Throughout the placement I build a network of contacts that stay with me throughout my whole BMW career.
Being on a degree apprenticeship means that I will get a level 6 qualification at the end of my four years. Throughout the apprenticeship I will also gain a BTEC Level 3 as well as a NVQ in engineering. There are many internal courses that can be completed for personal developement throughout the course.
The day to day work content is very enjoyable as well as challenging at the same time. Working within the different departments is a fantastic oppurtunity to see how the whole plant and company work together and operate. The company culture is professional and also friendly which encourages self development.
I have regular meetings with my managers to discuss my progress and create development plans for the future. My fellow colleagues value my support and recognise my efforts.
My whole course is planned out from the first day to the last. All the necessary induction processes and training are given before starting the course. Support is always available whether it is academic or something personal.
My training provider supports me with anything I may be struggling with and make the course enjoyable.
I have regular meetings with my managers who always ask how I am doing and whether I am experiencing any problems.
The salary is competitive and covers my expenses. It also increases every 6 months if I meet my targets. The company car scheme is also a very good way for young drivers to get otherwise unaffordable cars.
There are plenty of oppurtunities offered outside of work such as challenges, team activities and career events that I can attend.
Yes
Overall it is a very enjoyable place to work in. My colleagues and managers take me seriously and appreciate the support that I can offer. The work content is also very interesting and keeps me hooked on a daily basis.
The application process is relatively straight forward. Just be confident in the assessment centres, they aren't designed to catch you our rather see how you behave in different situations.
