  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Community banker. I am in branch covering the banking hall. I am the first point of contact with customers. I manage the customers who come in and direct them to the correct place.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Unfortunatly I do not enjoy the program as much as i thought. I am on a Leadership and Management program and i havent had any leadership or management roles yet and i have almost finished my first year. the team I work wit are brilliant however the management is very poor. The program hasnt met my expectations at all.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Barclays?
  • As Barclays is such a large company it is hard to feel valued in day to day life. As I said the mangement is very poor and over the last few month I have asked to do my rotation and my manager has said yes but nothing comes of it. This is a reoccuring trend for all staff.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The university side to the course is excellent. they have all the support there when needed and the lectures and study blocks are brilliant. Howevr on the Barclays side, there isnt much (if any) contanct with the course leaders. They do not check up to see if we are meeting our rotations and set out tasks. There is a clear structure that is set out however it is not met. I do get time for study days and my stidy blocks.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Anglia Ruskin have been excellent reagrding support and the course. They have created a course which I throughly enjoy and would highly reccomend. There is support with your personal tutor as wel as heads of programms and teachers.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Unfortunaitly I do not recieve as much support from my mangers as I would like. I am just used as someone to cover when they are hort staffed. they do not know much about my program and dont see the importance of me changing roles to help with my university work. I go manily to other staff members for help as i feel they will support me.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Due to where my work place is and here i live i am spending half of my monthly salary on travel. As the closest place Barclays offer this apprenticegship was London i have to trave each day which is 2 1/2 hours each way. I do have a pension and private healthcare included in my package with is good. But my outgoing costs are very high.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are evnts put on but you have to ask to attend. there are lots of volunteering oppertunities and you can help the local community. But due to the time it takes me to get home i cannont participate in these. But Barclays are heavliy envolved in the community which is very good.

  • 9. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • From my personal expreience I wouldnt reccommend it to a friend due to Barclays not meeting expectations. However I do belive that if someone thinks they are right for ths course to go for it and try to get as much out of it as posible. Barclays are a large compnany and there is room to progress.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Find out what you want from Barclays and really show your passion. Know what youre good at and what you can bring to the table. When it comes to interviews be proud of your acheievments and tell the interviewer why you are proud of them. Know what type of person you are and what role you suit best when choosing a program.
