Trainee Fibre Jointer working on installing fibre optic cable to new housing developments. This involves work in telephone exchanges, the fibre spine and in customer properties.
Fibre jointing skills. Working on OCR racks and a range of different nodes and joints. Plus associated tasks such as signing, lighting and guarding and pole climbing/drop wiring.
The practical elements of the course have been very good.
Having left teaching, where I felt incredibly under valued; working for Openreach has restored much of the self belief that had been eroded by teaching.
The programme on the whole was detailed and well structured. There have been some issues during the buddying process and on the job learning but these have been resolved over the duration of the course.
I have received a good level of support from my colleagues and manager. The trainers on the course were also helpful and knowledgeable.
My manager and colleagues have been supportive and have allowed me time to learn my new role.
As an apprentice with no telecoms experience the salary is more than fair. The overall package offered is excellent.

I have enjoyed the training and the practical aspects of the job. There is no expectation on the individual to pay for any equipment r resources from their own pocket. Everything needed for the role is supplied by Openreach.
