For the first year of my apprenticeship, I take on the general roles of a Store Assistant. So provinding good customer service, working on the checkouts, as well as working daily delivery’s and keeping the store tidy. While in my spare time working though a a number of Work books provided by my apprenticeship tutor. Starting the second year I will begin to learn the roles of a deputy store manager, as well as still working daily delivery’s and being on the checkouts. Also I will have a new section of workbooks to do. My theirs year is more on the job training hug without any work books.
I have learnt what the best way is to manage staff and keep them happy. As well as I’ve bettered my customer service skills making it much easier to work with the customer to provide them with what the need.
I enjoy the fact that I have a “quick” progression from “Store assistant” to “manager” but it is hard being an apprentice.
At the moment, while still in my first year I don’t feel very valued at all. But I’m sure that ones I profess this may change.
Other than the clear Year 1 = Store assistant and Year 2/3 = Manager There is no structure, you’re left to your own devices when it comes to work books.
the only time I get support from my tutor is when we are having a catch up meeting.
I have good support when I need it. If I have problems concerning work of home life I can easily go to one of the managers in store or even ask to meet with my Area Manager [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] to talk about what I need help with..
I’m currently on £6 an hour which with my 30 hour contract means about £700 a month, with doesn’t go far and I usually end up havinng to borrow money or go. I have rent, Car payment, Phone payments, As well as petrol and food!
Up until now I haven’t heard of any outside of Work opportunities, which could be improved by simple activities or mini leagues in versions sports. To the winning team/store of these mini league Aldi could give a small donation £500 or even £1000 to a charity chosen by the victors. I am now interested in the five as side football tournament that could be happening if enough people wish it too, I will definitely be partaking in my stores team.
Yes
Aldi is a great company with lots of potential for progression to the right people. The Aldi family “store staff” are also great, there’s always someone you can talk to if you’ve got a problem or just something you need to get of your chest. They are all willing to go the extra mile for you.
If someone was looking to apply to the Aldi apprenticeship, I’d advise them to either have good saving or be sure that their family can help them when they need financial help. Because it is a struggle in the first year to save for anything and some months you have to go pay check to pay check.
