My contracted job title is Supply Chain Coordinator although I am currently seconded as a First Line Manager. I have direct involvement with the customer on a daily basis and also lead a team of 12 Operatives and 3 Inventory Clerks. I am responsible for the running of one of the shifts on the contract and deal with everything from everyday queries to disciplinary action.
I have learnt a lot of new skills from my apprenticeship, including different management styles to manage my team. I feel that my apprenticeship has helped put me in the best position possible for progression within DHL in the future.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme and would recommend to anyone wishing to progress within the company.
My immediate manager takes a keen interest on what I have learnt on my apprenticeship and feel that being able to communicate the fact that I am currently completing an apprenticeship will hold me in good stead for the future.
The programme is very structured and this has been communicated to myself right from the start of the course. The support from my tutor has been brilliant and they always contactable via email whenever I have a question. The group I am in has a variety of colleagues working at all levels within DHL.
Support is always available from the training provider, particularly via email. The course is well structured and the offer of help is always provided at each meeting.
The support I receive from my employer has been good. They take a keen interest in what I have learnt and I am always keen to put this into practice at work which they are happy with.
My contracted coordinator salary just meets my costs. Considering the knowledge I have gained through this course in particular is on par with colleagues who are in higher paid roles, it would always be nice to receive more. However, my current seconded role salary meets my costs a lot better and I am happy with this.
In regards to employment opportunities, I am not currently looking. Company activities and events are quite regular and voluntary positions are communicated for various charities via the CSR team on site. I am involved in a few different personal activities outside of work.
Yes
My experience of DHL as a whole has been a positive one.
A good, well written CV is always useful. I feel that there are many opportunities at many levels within DHL. Everywhere you go, there are people who want to provide the best service possible for DHL's customers. There are many ways people can work and gain experience within DHL including Apprenticeships and Princes Trust etc. The opportunities are there if you want them.
