  • learning what happens on site and training to be an engineer

  • hands on skills improved, learning lots more about protection systems.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Heavy workload - so very little free time. Lack of support when required and not available to move deadlines (Instructed by Resilient Mindset Trainer to ask to move deadlines so I could be less stressed).

  • 4. How valued do you feel by National Grid?
  • Manager is not supportive and after nearly two years the person still doesn't know my name, very blunt on emails and when speaking so I don't feel valued at all.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is structured but it is to intense and extremely stressful

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • tutors from courses are willing to help with the technical aspect, they are very good at passing on their knowledge

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not much support at all, putting on training courses for mental health but don't do anything to change the courses which cause the stress.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For the amount of time put into the program in your own time it is probably not well paid at all, but on the whole it is good as you get a car.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • No - I have to much work to do to socialize or really enjoy myself. Find myself constantly thinking about work load.

  • 9. Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would as long as they understood the whole requirement of the job and how much free time it takes up.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • Give a full in depth showing of the program and make the people aware that you have to give up a lot of free time.
