My role is a technical role which entails mainly computer work where I can enter such roles as planning, design, testing etc. Within each area of the company that I visit throughout the apprenticeship I spend three months learning what the role is about.
I have learnt many new skills throughout the apprenticeship as well as developing skills that I previously had. Some of the new skills I have learnt is how to plan jobs, how to design new parts and I have developed skills such as communication and computer based skills.
I enjoy my role as it allows me to obtain quite a broad range of skills and learn how a large company operates as well allowing me to develop as a person on skills such as how to be a professional and how to properly communicate with colleagues. I also enjoy the opportunities that come up from being a Leonardo apprenticeship.
As an apprentice at Leonardo helicopters I feel like a valued member of the team for the future. The managers at the company treat apprentices well and allow you to feel welcome and a valued member of the team. The opportunities for apprentices within the company and events such as the annual awards dinner give a sense of worth.
The structure of the apprenticeship is good and follows a well organised and planned out path. This allows you to be aware of the plans for the future. Also the structure of people within the company is simple and effective and allows you to easily understand who to talk to and gain support from if needed.
I receive good support from my training provider in terms of the college and the company themselves. Any help that is needed for college work or NVQ is easily obtainable if you speak to the right people and the training providers are friendly and always willing to help if it is required. I feel that the amount of support is adequate.
I receive a good amount of support from my employer in any aspect that is required. The area managers and supervisors are always willing to help and usually have the answer to any question that I may ask or can point you in the right direction. Then HR team is very responsive and quick to answer any questions that you may have in terms of your employment and allow any issues to be solved in a quick and timely manner.
The salary package is suffiecient to meet the cost that are incurred from coming to work for example travelling and also leaves me plenty of money for social situations such as holidays.
The AWASA team that is in place offers lots of opportunity out of work to socialise with peers and develop realationships with colleagues.
