I am an associate at Deloitte working in the audit service line. My role entails completing non-audit work for auditors, this includes drawing up budgets or helping the auidt team organise files and client documents. My role is admin based but it is wide ranging and my daily tasks are integral to an audit. I mainly deal with my engagement teams which are based around the UK, these include qualified auditors and managers. I do not deal with clients regularly as this is the job of the auditors.
I am currently completing a Business administration level 3 apprenticeship, this ivloves learning about my employee rights and responsibilities. Over the course of the apprenticeship I will gain a detailed knowledge of how businesses are run. I also have many training sessions at work which mainly centre around IT systems such as excel and powerpoint but also bespoke systems which have a tailored use within our business. My IT skills have improved a great deal since starting at Deloitte. Additionally, my professional skills have improved since working at Deloitte and I have learned how to deal with managers and partners easily.
I am thoroughly enjoying the apprenticeship and I like the fact that I am treated the same as others on my team even though I am an apprentice. I have enjoyed learning many new skills and also having more independence, learning on the job makes the qualification easier and more rewarding.
Deloitte make an effort to inculde everyone and treat all apprentices the same as any other new hire. I have felt that my work has benefitted my engagement teams and I have even been given many independent resposibilites which gives me the confidence to grow.
The course is well organised, we are at college once a week where we get taught every other week and we then have a structured study day the following week. This gives us the opportunity to stay on top of work. We are also encouraged to mix with past apprentices to ask them any questions/ for advice.
Our training provider keeps in contact with us and even allows us to email her if we have any questions throughout the week. We are encouraged to choose modules that compliment our job role and will enable us to grow within Deloitte.
Deloitte supports us through the apprenticeship by ensuring we have plenty of time to complete the qualification and ensuring that we are not overloaded with wotk. We are assigned a mentor who stays in close contact with the training provider to ensure that we are on track and completing the best suited modules. Deloitte also organise a weekly apprentice catch up which allows us to voice any concerns or ask for any guidance.
The salary at deloitte is well above the NMW for an apprentice which makes the apprenticeship very appealing. There are even loans offered to apprentices to help with any travel costs. For a young apprentice I believe I am well paid with the prospect of my salary increasing after the apprenticeship is completed.
There are socials organised every few months which allows everyone to socialise outside of work and get to know each other better. There are some opportunities to get invloved in additional activities however I do think this could be improved. Deloitte is located in the centre of Cardiff so there are many things to do in the surrounding areas such as leisure and gyms.
Yes
Deloitte has proved to be a great place to work, I am given my own freedom whilst being a part of a team. Deloitte also invest in your future and have coaches that can help you to steer your career into a direction which suits you.
The application process is well rounded and I would encourage people to go on the Deloitte website and search for the hints and tips. When it comes to the assessment day I would encourage people to stay calm and level headed especially during the group task. It is important to keep to time and be able to plan quickly. Additionally, I would encourage people to research Deloitte and think of situations and examples to back up any points they are going to make.
