I work as a Tax associate within Deloitte's COE in Cardiff. My role involves submitting tax returns to HMRC, dealing with HMRC documentation as well as setting up projects for the relevant tax years. I have heavy involvement with my team and external client teams within the firm, assisting with errors and adhoc requests.
I have developed my skills with software such as excel, CCH and Deloitte specific software such as Tracker and SharePoint. I have also developed my networking skills by engaging with other team members
I very much enjoy my work inside the office and working as part of a team. However, I do feel that the work isn't challenging enough on times and that more could be done to ensure teams are more social.
I have received excellent feedback from all managers since day one. I have won 2 "Limelight" awards thus far which recognizes hard work and dedication within my department. I have had heavy involvement with a number of processes within my team including E-filing, which involves ensuring tax returns are submitted to HMRC on time to prevent penalties, and curing any issues that arise.
I feel that the college side of the programme could be organised a lot better, I feel that a lot of time is wasted on certain modules that could be covered a lot quicker. I feel that the learning style could also be improved by moving away from constant powerpoint presentations.
Support is there should I need it.
I have an excellent support network of colleagues that help me with any issues work related or otherwise.
Relatively well, Travel for me personally is a massive expense. It would be hugely beneficial for people like me who travel fairly long distances to work to have these costs subsidised in some way.
There are many social events and external events such as charity ventures etc. I do feel that a bigger emphasis should be placed on sporting activities, as sitting in an office all day can be de-moralising and I feel sporting activities could help.
Yes
Because it is a fantastic opportunity to work for one of the "big four" if you do not have the relevant qualifications to apply for a role here.
Be yourself and do not try to change your personality to suit what you think will be accepted in a professional environment.
