I am a Senior Associate in the Indirect Tax team and assist the team in carrying out VAT advisory and compliance work for our clients. No two days are the same in my job as I work on a number of different tasks every day including VAT compliance work such as completing VAT returns; putting together a Voluntary Disclosure or a VAT claim for a client; carrying out VAT technical research; taking part in a VAT review for a client; attending client meetings; and assisting the team in advising on the VAT implications of big projects. In addition, I have attended many internal technical training courses over the last two and a half years in Daventry, as well as going to London for college to study for my professional qualification.
I have developed a number of skills including how to carry out technical research, how to read legislation, how to take meeting notes, how to use SAP, to name a few and, of course, VAT advisory skills.
Unfortunately, I am not enjoying the programme as much as I hoped and has not met my expectations.
I do not feel very valued in my team.
The programme started off not being well structured but now I am just carrying out my studies with the new graduates, it seems to be running more smoothly.
Support is available if needs be and Tolleys has numerous resources for additional learning and help. The tutors are happy to give you their email address and telephone number in case you need help.
I have received a lot of support from my employer, especially in recent months, although I am not sure whether it is the right kind of support.
I think the salary should be a lot higher for what we do and the pressure on us.
There are lots of work social and charity events and lots of opportunities to get involved.
No
I think the culture is too competitive and cut-throat, and if your face doesn't fit, then you are left out.
Look into it thoroughly and understand which service line you are applying for.
