  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is apprentice manager and on a daily basis I would be working on the shop floor with customers. I spend a portion of each day going through inventory procedures as well as being sat on a till.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a few new things but recently I have felt like I am doing all the same stuff rather then continuing to learn.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working for Aldi. It has given me an opportunity to not only become a manager in such a short amount of time but also to build my skills up in the retail sector.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • Sometimes I feel like I'm being valued however, there have been a couple of times that I've had to do a few long weeks and get one day off afterwards which I feel is unfair towards myself as if I'm working 7 days or 11 of 12 days then I need to get some rest as I'm working myself constantly.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is in my opinion something that can be worked on still. As after the first year and become an apprentice manager. You learn most of what it is to be a deputy manager pretty quickly and the course is 2 years once you have finished your first year. I feel like if you are giving people two years to learn while doing a course then there has to be more input into it. I would of liked to learn about some of the jobs Assistant store managers do.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have finished and passed my course now so I haven't had much interaction with my provider. But while doing my work for my course and meeting up for updates they were very helpful and made it a breeze for me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is some support given to me but much like the training provider I seem to notice a pattern that my training just stops after deputy manager tasks such as safe handling and night manager. I wouldn't mind for them to be a bit more eager to train me on something new. The more I learn the more people that can do a job rather than relying on few people.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My pay can normally hold up. I'm not too pleased with the total however. I'm only just scratching the tip of some store assistants. Where as being a manager and the amount of work you have to put in sometimes makes me think as to how I'm still under £9 after two and a half years.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have many charity related oportinites outside of work which anyone can take part in.

    4/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a good company to work for. It treats staff well. Pays them for their hard work and there's so many different stores being built and expanding that it offers flexibility and consistency.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Aldi are a very fast paced company and thrive on productivity. If you ever feel like joining the team, never hesitate if you aren't the fastest or the most productive person when you first join. It is something you learn and pick up after being there for a while.
