I am a trainee substation engineer and I'm training to become a senior authorized person, I complete maintenance work on substation equipment. I also attend uni part time
Yes loads of new training and skills have been developed
I do enjoy my programme but it is very stressful, often it is not necessary and can be relived with better planning and resources
I feel very valued at national grid
The programme is well structured but could be planned better to avoid cluster points which cause lots of stress
Most trainers and organizers give lots of support
Lots of support is given from site and team based staff whom i work with
the salary is good but in comparison to others in the company who are on a similar course and have a much lighter work load and have fewer stresses we get paid the same. this is annoying as they have loads of free time when we are constantly doing work
not too sure
Yes
it is a good company to work for and does have a family feel
be prepared to work hard and have a lot of stress but it will be rewarding
