I am a CPT (Process Manufacturing) Apprentice. On a day to day basis I run meetings highlighting work to be done, charge materials need for the process, help to sign PTWs (Permit to Work), setup processes such as distillations and reactions and monitor them.
I have learnt lots of new skills in a short amount of time. I have learnt the chemistry aspect of the products we make. I have learnt practical skills using tools such as making and breaking joints the correct way. I have built on skills i already had such a people skills and communicating. I have also progessed my education by completing Level 2 and 3 NVQ and a Technical Qualification at college.
I enjoy work alot. I enjoy being in my work environment as everyone is supportive with my learning and wants me to progress while also having a good laugh with me.
I feel Syngenta have invested in me to be a future employee and havea long career at Syngenta.
My program is structured well and is seperated into year 1 where we do 6 weeks on different plants and get an overview of each product. We also do mini placements in the first year where we look at different departments around site. We also complete our level 2 NVQ in year 1. In year 2 we do 9 month placement on one plant and we complete our level 3 NVQ.
I recieve sufficient support from my tutors at college and NVQ assessors explaining things to me when extra help is needed.
My manager helps me alot with my written work and with the work on plant. Any problems I have he has no hesitation to help me and guides me ensuring I am making progress. Extra tutition has also been organised which is a massive help.
I am paid very well for an apprentice and I am aware of how my pay will progress to becoming a qualified CPT.
There is quite alot of good engineering based companies for apprenticeships around Huddersfield.
