Systems Maintenance Engineer. Daily tasks involve looking after the production facilities such as automated drop sections, robots, fluid fill machines and conveyors. I am responsible for maintaining the production equipment as well as rectifying breakdown issues. Projects involve 5s standard improvements and quick change initiative for standby equipment change overs. During the week I am ensuring that the equipment is recovered ASAP to maintain production levels
I have gained many qualifications on the apprenticeship including national diplomas, city and guilds and NVQ level 3. I have been on internal training course for new equipment so that I am competent with the operation and recovery of the equipment. I have been on external training at Warwickshire college where I have received the delivery for the various qualifications that I have attained. I have developed communication and team building skills as well as time management and presentation skills through out the apprenticeship. I have learnt many electrical and mechanical skills that allow me to completed my job successfully as well as software understanding and automation sequencing
I enjoy my work and enjoy the learning opportunities that the apprenticeship has offered me. I work with a knowledgeable team who take the time to teach me what I need to know. The company strive to up skill and increase the training of all employees. The apprenticeship was what I had hoped it would be and I am looking forward to coming out of my time.
Feedback is always offered whether or not it is good or bad feedback. It is always constructive. I am involved with many tasks and projects and often left to complete them on my own.
The structure of the program is excellent. The training is well thought out and support is provided if needed. I have regular meetings with my mentor to assess my progress and also to discuss how I can improve and any issues that I may have. Overall the programme was well organised
Support was offered if needed, with extra training put in place for people who wanted/needed it.
Support from my employer is good. Issues are resolved quickly and training provided if needed. As an apprentice I am looked after well and encouraged to succeed.
The pay is very good. An 'Rate for Stage' system is in place for the apprentices as a motivational tool where by a pay rise every six months is dependant on performance and feed back from tutors/managers. My travel costs are high and I struggled to pay my bills during the first year or so.
The ELS system provides funded course outside of work for every employee who wants to take advantage of the offer.
Yes
I see JLR as a good employer with good prospects; hence I would recommend them to a friend
I would advise people to spend the time and answer the application questions with careful thought and consideration; ensuring that the questions were answered relevantly and completely
