  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, I talk to customers about banking products and conduct customer reviews. My job title is a bank assistant. Its important to remain compliant, which means completing paperwork efficiently and managing all data sensitively. I also handle cash, balance the safe, etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed an in depth knowledge of all banking products, as well as policies and procedures. I am currently studying for a cert RBCB apprenticeship which has given me a knowledge of the industry as a whole, as well as rules and regulations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoy the programme, as it puts the industry into perspective, and makes you consider the financial industry as a whole rather than just the part that you play. I do enjoy the programme as i love to learn and i am always willing.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by HSBC?
  • I would say i do feel valued by HSBC. I get great support from managment when it comes to my apprenticeship, and i am always achknowldged when it is due. My input is valued in the branch, however I don't really have input past the branch itself.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I meet with my mentor once a month, this is to provide regular support & guidence from my tutor. I know i can email at any time and recive a reply relatively quickly. I have commited time to complete assignements daily, which is great for my time managment, and works around other work i have to do in the branch.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I recieve a lot of support and guidence from my tutor. this is via email, face to face etc. She also helps me when i am struggling with assignemnts and tasks, pointing me in the right direction.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve a generous amount of support from my manager and employer. I was put forward for the course early on into my employment, around 7/8 months, which is great because i feel they value me and have condience in me that i can complete the course. My manager often asks how I am doing and if he can help with any additonal time or support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is reasonably relevant to my costs. After all bills, mortage costs etc, i am left with around £200pw excluding travel costs. A monthly tram ticket is £90ish which is expensive for travel to the city centre. Parking is cheap & there is an abundance of carparks.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am charity champion for the branch, meaning I am in charge of finding activities for colleagues to use their paid for voulenteer day. There are sometimes opportunities for feedback sessions with higher managment & actitivies at head office in chester.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a great company to work for, many benefits for employees and i beleive you are treated well. It is a competitive salary for the industry, and colleagues are always friendly and happy to help.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Be yourself, and be prepared to wait. the interview/recruitment process can be long- mine was around 3 months, which i wasnt aware of at the time. The onboarding is great, with two paid weeks in chester, getting to meet the team etc.
