As an aircraft mechanic apprentrice, I am very proud of my job role. I have spent th last year at a training accedemy doing mostly theory training, it has been tough but an important part of my job role, i am currently on an raf base doing the practical part of my apprenticeship which will get me the NVQ. it is still very new but i am enjoying it greatly.
i have learnt many new skills, and alot of knowledge. i have also developed my exsisting hand skills.
i enjoy my programme greatly, i am proud to call myself an aircraft mechanic apprentice and have a keen interest in my trade.
i feel fairly valued by BAE SYSTEMS, i do so because i know how much money they are investing in me to become a qualified aircraft mechanic, i hold one of the most competetive apprentice wages and the training for my i know to be very costly.
the doncaster based training accademy, i feel, had communication and organisational issues at the management level, often us apprentices were left not knowing what we were meant to be doing on some occasions. i have not met any problems on the second half of the apprenticeship at the raf base.
In the first half i would say i received support 80% of the time when i needed it in normal circumstances, but as i had a broken leg during the first year, catch up work was required and i was allowed and aided in doing that. the support was excelent during that period.
not as much as i would have liked, there are systems in place that you can raise an issue if you have one, but often it went un-adressed once raised.
very well, in the first year, accomodation was provided for free, so my outgoing were minimal and the wage was more than enough. in the second year, the wage increases gradually, but since i now have living costs, it is becoming more difficult.
I suggested a charity, BAE sponsored fun run event nearer the beggining of my course and was basically told no help would be given, this was very dissapointing. I do not know of any other events that take place.
Yes
a quick way into a career with a large feeling of pride.
do plenty of research on the company and be open to be employed by many different areas of the company.
