Apprentice Fitter My typical day will involve preparing aircraft for flight, and carrying out work to maintain aircraft to a suitable flying condition. I will deal with my local shop floor team and regularly communicate with supervision and management in order to succesfully complete the required work. It is my duty to go out of my way to learn my trade from the skilled men around me.
I am gaining new qualifications in both Further Education and also my Technical Certificate. I am going to achieve by the end of my apprenticeship an NVQ level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering, and a HNC in Manufacturing Engineering. I have learnt a lot about construction of aircraft, maintenance and gained flightline experience. I have built a lot of skills that will massively benefit me in my future career.
I enjoy coming to work everyday. I work amongst very knowledgable and professional people on a daily basis and my job is always current and enjoyable.
Everybody is encouraged to develop at BAE Systems, and there are always opportunities to be recognised for your hard work in both shop floor work and extra curricular activities - for example I completed a Prince's Trust course.
The apprenticeship is well organised. We always recieve the relevant information prior to starting placements, and we are well inducted prior to starting. We always get well looked after - but I never feel like I am being molly coddled too much.
Our training team are dedicated to provide us with excellent support - through regular support meetings and they are always offering us feedback and suggesting new ways to strive. The support is always at hand and it is well recieved by the apprentices.
Our employer also provides us with plenty of support, and co operate with the training scheme. Mentors are provided if you would like one, and there is a general interest from the employers into apprentices.
I am comfortable with the amount of money I earn. I have no worries, and I think the pay, and regular pay rises are well in line with our work, and development.
There are always extra curricular events that we are invited to partake in. BAE regularly give us chance to be involved in charity work, and an example of something I did was a Prince's Trust Course. There are sports teams within the business and our apprentice team enjoys playing in the summer league

I enjoy working in a plae that offers a good apprenticeship with new opportunities arising regularly - and not to mention its good pay and close to home!
Be honest and be yourself. Strive to look up the company properly, and make sure you have a genuine interest in the company you are trying to work at!
