I currently work as RSA as a Trading Underwriter. Working on the New Business team my daily tasks involve looking at reactive presentations and deciding whether or not to offer a quotation based on group strategy and whether this falls within my licence. Also alongside this i proactively seek new quotes from my brokers which can be based anywhere in the UK. I interact with brokers via the telephone or email and the occasional visit. I am currently enrolled on the Insurance Practitioner Level 4 course whilst working towards my Dip CII
As i am working towards my DIP CII i am currently studying the M92 Insurance Business and Finance and have recently completed a 7,000 word coursework on this. I am also developing my soft skills through the New Class 2018 program through the MII
As i am only 6 months into the programme, i can say that i am enjoying it alot at the moment but i know that i need to put in alot of work over the next 18months to achieve my goal.
I feel that my direct line manager really appriciates the work that i put in, this being in my day to day job or even within my development and apprenticeship. There so far has not been any internal recognition that i am working towards this, but i am hopeful that at the end of my journey this will become apparent.
I would say at the start of the programme there were quite a few hold ups so it didnt seem very well structured. There was a milestone map provided but no tasks were set as part of the apprenticeship
The training provider should have visited quite a few times and been providing tasks for me to do which they hadnt so the overall programme is falling slightly behind. After one visit with the training provider however, this has put my mind at ease and im confident that things will improve moving forward.
My direct manager will always try and support me as and when and has proved very helpful when i was struggling with elements of the coursework, advising me of how and when to study and what part of the textbook to focus on when the questions didnt read quite right.
For the apprenticeship itself there are no costs involved as this is funded by RSA.
There are many opportunities within the Manchester Insurance Institute for added learning and development
Yes
I enjoy working for RSA and they really care about the development of their people, i wouldnt have been able to fund my own DIP CII so without RSA providing this i wouldnt be studying towards my qualification
