An average day in my role involves working on a high-speed packing line, my main purpose is to make sure that the line runs to its highest efficiency, this can be achieved by maintaining the machines to a high standard to reduce the chance of a break down, and also reducing losses on the line by completing Kaizens which are tools which continuous improvement.
I joined Unilever straight after finishing my GCSEs and whilst at Unilever I have achieved 2 level 2 qualifications relevant to engineering and a level 3 in buisness improvement techniques, I have also completed many inn house courses so that I can improve at my job, this includes how to effectively maintain machines and how to use speccific tools correctly and safely. Unilever also gave me the chance to obtain a counterbalance forklift license which is something I have the potential to take anywhere if I ever choose to leave my job role. I recently completed a courser in the lake district which taught me how to lead effective teams and how different situations require different leadership styles, this will greatly help me in the future.
I did not no what to expect when starting Unilever as it was my first job but can honeslty say that i enjoy every day in work. I come in with a smile on my face ready to do my job and leave with a smile on my face knowing i did everything I could.
As a packing line operator I feel exeptionaly valued, Unilever have invested so much into making me the best packing line operator I could be and to also look into higher job roles in the future. I am in constant talks with my line leader and apprenticeship coordinator where I am always asked how I am doing and if there is anything they could do to make my days better.
My programme is extremely well organised. every month is planned out with placements and goals to be achieved within the timeframe. But if there is something I think that i am missing they are always there to make sure that i get the most out of my programme.
