I am a Channel Marketing apprentice in the out of home Ice Cream team. We work very closely with our customers to provide point of sale items that will help to drive sales. Ice Cream is generally an impulse purchase so these items are very important. My roles include, briefing agencies, visiting potential customers, sending visuals for production and tracking the whole process. I am specifically responsible for London so my roles also include coming up with ideas for new POS items that are specifically made for London.
I have been able to develop my excel skills due to intermediate excel training courses. My role includes a lot of different projects so I have been able to develop my project management and time management skills to make sure they are all completed efficiently and effectively.
The course has exceeded my expectations as I have been given a lot of responsibility very quickly which I thought would take a lot longer. This allows me to show my capabilities but we are still given a lot of support if needed. I really enjoy my role and get along really well with everyone in my team. The team were very welcoming and are all very friendly.
I feel very valued within my role, I always receive recognition and appreciation when I have produced good work or have supported another member of my team
My introduction to the course was very structured and effective. We received a two day induction which included everything about the business that we needed to know and we got to hear from current apprentices and employees of Unilever. My team has a structured hierarchy and I understand who is responsible for what which helps me to complete my own projects.
I have meetings to discuss my progress and they respond to any questions quickly.
I receive a lot support from my employer with my tasks and I know where to go to gain extra support if I need it.
The salary is good and meets my costs as well as allowing me to save quite a lot. However, costs to get to the office can be quite high which does take quite a chunk out of my monthly wage. Also, I still live at home but if I moved out and had to pay proper rent I think I would struggle to pay it on this salary.
We have had a few team meals and every quarter we have a team building day which is very effective. we have the opportunity to play softball as a team every week and we have a Christmas party.
Yes
Unilever has been a great place to work, they provide a lot of support and opportunities. They are a very successful global company so it is very interesting to see the environment and be involved in important projects.
Be yourself at the assessment days, the assessors aren't trying to catch you out, they just want to get to know you and the assessment centre isn't as scary as it may seem. Be friendly and network with lots of people.
