I am a DevOps apprentice, this involves me working with a wide range of automation technologies and programming/scripting languages, such as PowerShell which I use within both Cloud and On Premises environments. On a day to day I will often be working on new automation tools for a various Accenture clients both externally and internally.
Before joining Accenture I had no experience with any of the tools I use today. Since joining Accenture I have become proficient with PowerShell, which I have used on every project I have been in. Along with this I have been exposed to new cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure, the latter of which I recently took an exam to become certified in.
Since joining Accenture I have always been very impressed with how well we treat our apprentices. Every team I have joined I have been made to feel very welcome and my career councilor is always available to answer any questions I have and provide guidance as I progress in my career.
Throughout my time at Accenture I have received loads of support and encouragement from our leadership for the work that I have delivered since joining. I have been trusted to deliver work to a variety of clients on my own, and my thoughts and opinions are always considered during team meetings.
Accenture has a well structured apprenticeship scheme as they have had years of experience in employing apprentices. Upon starting you are inducted into the company and provided with workshops and Q&As that allow you to get a better grasp of what we do as a business and how you fit in to the organisation.
QA provides a wide range of support options to help as you progress though the degree. The various tutors on each course are available for 1-2-1 calls if you're struggling and you are provided with a skills coach who acts as a point of contact for any issues you are facing throughout the program.
Accenture fulfills their obligation to their apprentices by providing them the 20% of their time that is allocated to the degree, for me I take this as a single day a week that I focus on studying, however I have always found my managers more than fair if I need a bit more time to focus on exams or finalize coursework.
Accenture pays a very competitive salary which allows me to enjoy a wide range of things which I would not be able to do had I gone to university. Currently I am renting an apartment with whilst saving money into my pension and putting money into a savings account to pay for a house.
Accenture provides a wide range of clubs and communities that employees to join, this allows you to network with other employees whom have similar interests. As apprentices we are given a budget to organise events with the other apprentices in office, our most recent event was indoor mini golf which was a lot of fun.
Yes
The degree program that Accenture are offering is a fantastic option for anyone that is looking at other routes rather than going to university. With the opportunity to be paid and receive the same level of qualification to me is a no brainier. Following the apprenticeship you will both have a degree and years of experience working at a top IT company, providing you with the best opportunity for a fantastic career.
It is critical to highlight your passion for IT, why you're interested and what you hope to gain from the apprenticeship. Don't be expected to know everything about technology such as cloud as you are not expected to be aware of it, the interviewers are more interested in you as an individual and how you'll fit into the company.
