Upon commencing level 6 of my apprenticeship, I have chosen Software Engineering as my specialism. This has been a great choice as part of my placement I have gone through several weekly rotations shadowing teams such as solutions architecture, tech arc and enterprise arc as well as networks, risk and many others over a 10 week period. This has enabled me to build a better network, get an indepth view of the organisations current system and understand the bigger picture.
Networking, system analysis, IT Risk, network servers and many other skills associated with key IT components
It is a great programme where you can gain a lot of knowledge on the job as well as working towards a degree. I would definitely recommend this option over university.
Yes, there are rewarding systems in place and I have been nominated occasionally for behaviours I have demonstrated. However, it is important to ensure that you record all you have done, as otherwise it can go unnoticed.
Overall, it is a well structured programme with a lot of flexibility around self development and study. On the university side I believe it could be improved by offering real time tuition as an option.
I have plenty of support in terms of getting advice on situations that can be hard to comprehend at times. I have not fully utilised the support mechanisms that are available to me, but from what I have understood there is plenty of support available.
The early in career team here at Santander ensure that all apprentices are looked after and make sure that we are given adequate time for our self development as well as other needs required for our work. I am more than satisfied by their support.
I am content with my salary package, benefits are good too but I think could be improved by adding health insurance as a free perk as other organisations do.
Yes, our corporate social responsibility statement means we have to participate in atleast two community events per year. Therefore, this allows us to participate in the act of giving back to the community, which is great.
Yes
Santander is an excellent employer which encourages development and ensures you are looked after. I am proud to be a part of Santander.
Take time to research Santander and its core values/behaviours. This is integral to understand the nature of the organisation.
