  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Lots very intense learning in both university and the training academy in Eakring, Nottingham. This is both theory and technical learning.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained a lot of knowledge in the Power Engineering Ind, especially as to where my company sits in the industries and all the rules and regulations that apply to be able to carry out work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's a very intense course so it's hard to sit back and take enjoyment out of it. The practical and on-site work are my most favorable aspects of this apprenticeship.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by National Grid?
  • Not very valued as we are not able to carry out much work that is of use to National Grid as we are in our 1st year of our traineeship.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not very well organized, we have a lot of important assessments all at one time, this amounts to a lot of pressure being put on us. The assessments could be spread out relieving pressure and giving us more time to concentrate on one maybe two things at one time.

  • Moderate amount of support. More support from certain individuals.

  • Not many as I am on a training scheme so there is no opportunities outside of work for me.

  • 9. Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a company that will always provide a stable job where if you wish to progress the company will support you in doing so. The training provided is very good.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • Be prepared to give up a lot of your free time if you want to succeed in passing the scheme that I am currently undertaking.
