My job role is an account manager within Softcat. On a daily basis, I am making cold calls, sending emails to customers and building quotes / processing orders too. I am interacting with team members and managers everyday, therefore, if I require help someone is always there to help. within the role, I must take the responsibility of managing business relationships between Softcat and other businesses and potentially managing the aspects of projects for customers too.
My knowledge of IT has developed a lot since starting the job, I understand the IT market and am a lot more aware of what vendors there are and which does what. confidence has improved as a whole and communication skills with external people and internal colleagues has improved. this has enabled me to develop relationships a lot easier.
I really enjoy speaking with customers and helping out/ working on projects. A big part of my enjoyment is also being able to work on such a great team which makes your day better if you aren't feeling the best at times. the company culture also makes things more fun and exciting to come to work.
Managers take a lot of time out to book meetings and discuss how I am doing and to speak about where I may be able to improve to get better at the job. Everybody is involved therefore there isn't that segregation between managers and staff in the office
The programme began with 3 weeks training before we began the job. We have monthly sessions with the training providers of the apprenticeship too. 20% of the programme within work is to have focus on the apprenticeship work.
I can contact the training provider anytime I want if I have any queries about anything and they also come down to tbe office once a month to do a session
managers provide plenty of support and guidance towards work, and I very rarely feel that there is a bad attitude towards supporting me
My salary matches the living and travel costs well, however social costs do suffer
There are plenty of opportunity to be rewarded for your hard work ie incentive trips abroad. There are also sporting activities which take place outside of the office such as football, cricket, squash and badminton.
Yes
The culture of Softcat Is like no other and the colleagues are great to work with. the opportunity to progress and increase earnings are also huge.
I would advise for others who apply to Softcat to be themselves but be able to showcase the difference they can make by being employed in a confident, not arrogant manner. I would advise of the opportunity that is ahead, coming to work for a company like Softcat.
