My day to day role depends on what department i'm in. Usually my role is to learn about and support the departments i'm on placement in.
I have learnt new skills in college and in work. Skills learnt in college include welding, CAD and design etc. Skills developed in work include soft skills, mechanical skills etc.
The programme is an enjoyable experience. The working environment/team and company culture is excellent and i've had a lot of fun partaking in the apprenticeship scheme.
The recognition internally and externally is'nt a lot but during our reviews we get good feedback and information. We are encouraged to partake in projects to increase our knowledge of the business and to improve our networking.
The college side of things is'nt very well structured and we sometimes struggle to find definite next steps. Inside of work, the structure is good and we have the freedom to decide where we want to go and have discussions on timeframes etc.
The support from the trainer has been excellent since the induction day, the trainer helps us out with college, work placements and any questions and query's we have.
The support from the employer is good, and any problems should there be any usually are met with a quick resolution.
In terms of salary, I believe we are well paid in comparison to other apprenticeships and some businesses around the area. The salary has been enough to live on away from home for the past 3 years without struggling too much.
There are oppertunities outside of work like local clubs etc. Company events are usually those organised by departments for an evening meal, team events etc.
Yes
Its a good oppertunity to develop your knowledge of many useful skills not just relevant to the business, and to develop your self as an individual.
Try and expose yourself to your chosen field before you arrive i.e. have a project of something you have completed which stands out.
