  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • IT Technician Apprentice, daily tasks involve attending meetings and working on projects for current placement. Placements within departments last around 3 months before moving to a new one.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about how a huge organisation functions and about the various IT processes. I've been on agile courses, attending a german course and an internal java course. Externally, I am attending university once a week to complete a digital and technology solutions course.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I extremely enjoy the office environment and get along well with most people within the company, it exceeded my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • I feel valued within the IT office as I am given responsibility to complete important tasks that are required by projects. They also make sure I always have work to do.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is structured well, the placements I will be working in are already figured out and fit around my external training at university once a week.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • If we ever need any help or questions answered, they always try their best to answer and clear up any confusion surrounding university work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If i'm ever overwhelmed by university work they allow time for me to complete it during work hours. I haven't specifically been told to go to anyone to discuss any problems, however I know the support is there if I need it.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • In terms of the living costs for Oxford, it can work on apprentice wage. Shared housing near work only amount to a portion of the monthly wage, with money left over for travel/food/social activity.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Every so often there are social activies organised by colleagues and a weekly running club. There are also opportunities to go abroad to locations such as Germany for work.

  • Yes

  • Comes with good benefits. The working environment is great and you have the potential to travel the world, whilst working with great people.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Alongside good grades, have evidence to show your passion for what you're looking to get an apprenticeship in. For example if you're applying for an IT apprenticeship, have evidence of a project you've worked on and show them your potential.
