Woodshop and lacquering associate Review

I am a woodshop apprentice at Rolls Royce motor cars part of the BMW group, so I am part of a team making the dash boards, doors and decks for the cars. My current placement is in metrology which means measuring the parts to CAD to check they are in specification and will fit the car correctly.

I am currently in the final months of my apprenticeship meaning I have learnt so much already! At college I am doing Furniture making and design Level 1 and 2 are complete and l have almost finished level 3. Within my apprenticeship you go round every area of the woodshop learning every process as well so you can make all the parts from start to finish.

Yes I really enjoy my apprenticeship. The work is really enjoyable and in my current area is challenging meaning you learn a lot but also very rewarding at the same time. The team I am currently working with are all so helpful and make every day very enjoyable whilst getting the work done. Everyone is kind, friendly and happy to lend a hand if you need help with anything.

I feel very valued. Not only that the work I do is needed within the process of making the parts but also that, I can see myself working here for years to come as the work I do is valued meaning and I really enjoy what I am doing in my currently placement.

It is organized as well as it can be. Within work everything is quite organized, as you know where/what placement/training you are going to be doing months in advanced. Whereas college is slightly disorganized meaning you don't really know what is happening till like a day ahead and you find out deadlines you have a day before they are due, when you were never told about them previously.

You get some support at college all though you don’t get heaps the support you do get is very good from your tutor when they check you’re alright and can sort out any issues you are having in regards to work, deadlines and equipment at college. They also come in to work so you have a meeting with the our apprenticeship coordinator and the college tutor to make sure you are on track with college work also making sure you are alright within your placement.

Quite a lot, you have support from the guys you work with within the jobs and placements you are in. We have a monthly meeting with our manager and mentor with in the woodshop also HR Apprentice co-coordinator. Meaning you can go through any issues, how everything is getting on with placements and college also any projects within work we have.

I can afford what I get as I am living at home with my parents at the moment. I have enough money to save for the future whilst also being able to buy what I want each month and go out a couple of times a month with my mates without worrying about money.

Yes there are, I have been lucky enough to have been sent on work trip to show room openings and dealer events when you can not only see and meet customers who value the products I help make but also you get to meet the team who sell what you create. Every year there is a family fun day where you can invite your family and friends to have a tour of the plant so they can see what you do day to day.
