I am a Fibre Jointer for Openreach and as part of their Business and Corporate development team I fit fibre optic circuits into business premises. We are provided with daily tasks for fitting to different businesses, we fit equipment within the telephone exchange and then create a connection between there and the customer premise usually through an external terminating splitter. Once the circuit has been fitted we test and commission it.
Once we have completed our training period we will have completed a NVQ for our role. We have also on the job training for things such as working at heights, underground working, road works safety and internal working areas.
I have enjoyed the training as a lot of the on the job training has been relevant but some of the class room work has been a little tedious. The people I work with have been fantastic in helping me learn and sharing their experience.
