My day to day role has varied. I have ran shifts, managing 30+ members of staff over the Christmas period, this involved allocating work to pickers and controlling stock levels. I have also spent time doing less important work, such as sorting through damaged stock in order to save what I can and send to store to be sold but also to keep track of damages for inventory purposes.
I have learned plenty of new skills, I have developed my ability to build rapport with people, this adds a foundation of mutual trust and respect which means people will be confident in my ability to lead. I have also learned new skills such as how to drive different MHE for example, counterbalance, reach trucks and bulk movers.
currently, I do not. The work is too easy and doesn't challenge me anymore, I feel underestimated by my peers even though I have proven on numerous occasions I am more than capable to produce high quality work. Having said that, the people I work with are all great, I enjoy their company.
As a person I feel valued as my Section leader goes out of his way to ensure that I'm okay as a personal level, and that I am happy in my role, however as a team member not so much. I feel like there is only a select few things I cannot do in the warehouse, however I find myself being tasked with the menial jobs.
Over the last 12 months or so when a new section leader has taken over our training plan it has become EXTREMELY well structured, we have a clear plan of what we are doing, when and how long for. This is great because no one has ever really known what to do with the apprentices, however this past year I have felt like there is a clear path to the end of the course
I only had the new training provider for a few months due to being more or less complete, however the time I did spend with Mantra learning was great, he was clear with what he wanted me to complete and if I had any issues he would take more time to explain them more clearly.
My employer is supportive of learning and development, I wanted to get my forklift truck certificates and they put me through the CB1, DD1 and Bulk mover courses. There are also management courses I have been put through thanks to my employer.
The salary I am on is good for me now, however if I was to get a new car or move out of my parents house I would have to consider a new job or possibly a second job along side this work.
Recently the warehouse and Aldi have been holding a lot of events for TCT (teenage cancer trust) so there are lots of opportunities to get involved with various events around the country.
Yes
It is a good place to start working if you are looking for an easy job for life. However if you are looking for something more challenging on a day to day basis it is a good stepping stone where you can gain experience to add to your CV
Be aware the job will involve 5am starts, as long as you don't mind getting up early you will be fine
