My role mainly involves aiding in CAD work for the senior engineers, I also help with the transport planning team with data analysis. we are involved in a lot of high profile projects that are interesting on a day to day basis.
I have definetly learned new skills over the short time i have been an apprentice. my day release at college helps me with a base knowledge. then working with colleagues who have been in the industry for a number of years further improves this and brings it into the jobs i am undertaking.
I really enjoy my Apprenticeship programme. I enjoy the work I do on a day to day basis and the team/colleagues I work with a great to get along with. It has more than met my expectations when I first came into the role.
I feel greatly valued by Mott MacDonald and, in particular, the team I work with. I recieve praise and recognition from those I work with and I feel the task I am doing matter to the overall project.
My programme is structured effectively. There is a clear direction of which I am expected to progress in. Training is easily available and reelvant to what I need to develop. If I need any additional support from colleagues, they are always willing to help and assist me when I ask.
My training provider are always on standby to help me with any issues I need help with. I can expect a reply with a day to any issue and they are extremely helpful and supportive. They provide clear guidance for issues raised and will regularly check up on me at the college and at my workplace to see if there is anything that can be done to aid my learning.
My manager is always ready to help me with anything I require assistance with. My colleagues are always willing to help and provide me with feedback and a clear direction to work towards. They are extremely helpful and happy to help at all times.
The cost of Travel to get into the city is quite expensive and can cost up to £230 on a 5week month, this added to the cost of car insurance because i am a young driver isn't great as i am spending upwards of £400 a month just on transport.
Yes, there are plently of opportunites outside of work for me. There are external and internal events which I can get invlovled in any time I wish and there are plently of clubs within the workplace that are welcoming to new members. Also ever year Motts puts on an Apprenticeship weekend which allows first year apprentices to interact with each other and learn team work skills. the only negative i have to this is that it only happens once and there is no further opportunitys for the apprentices to meet up somewhere.
Yes
Mott MacDonald have lots of benefits for employees and everyone feels valued as it is an employee owned company. I would reccomend anyone to get an apprenticeship and earn whilst you learn it is also a fantastic opportunity to network with other likeminded people both at the same age as you and chartered members of your industry.
Know about the college course you will be undertaking throughout the appreticeship. this knowledge should help you a little bit more than other interviewees as you have shown interest in what you want to do.
