  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Learning all the processes involved in making wooden components in rolls Royce’s.

    8/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I’ve learnt a huge amount about using veneers and the amount of work that goes into making each part

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The people at work are very nice and it is a nice environment. I would rate it higher if it were more organised and structured.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • They value their apprentices but I am not sure what they want out of them.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I enjoy the college course. The course is well organised for the resources they have. At work there is a schedule that we follow that tells us when we move from one area to the next. There are rough guidelines on what we are to learn but that is as far as it goes. What you actually learn depends on how keen you are and how busy the workers are.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • College goes out of there way to provide help often staying late so that people can work on ambitious projects.

    10/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Personally, people on the shop floor have helped me a lot and have been really helpful. However, this is because I get on well with them. Other apprentices that don’t get on well with people will get less support.

    7/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It doesn’t. I am doing an apprenticeship at a much later stage on my life than others. Apprentice wages are simply not enough for me to live alone so I am living with parents.

    4/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Opportunities to do what? Question needs clarifying.

    5/10

  • 9. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is not a high stress environment and the future prospects promise fairly good pay for the work that is being done.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • If you would like to work in a manufacturing environment it is a good place to be.
