I work alongside qualified QS in delivering a variety of tasks for the client, including cost plans, cost estimates, valuations etc. I go to meeting on site and at clients offices to widen my understanding of jobs and the role of a QS
I have developed my IT skills especially on Excel and have also learnt to use a number of new programs such as Cost X and PDF split and merge. as well i have developed my communication skills both written and verbal as i have constant contact with clients and contractors and have to adapt my communication styles to suit each situation.
I enjoy the apprenticeship route hugely and think the value of working whilst studying helps to cement learning and also learn a lot quicker. the team i work with are brilliant they check over coursework, help with any queries, and constantly ensure that i have work to stretch my potential and help me learn.
Mott macdonald are good at making you feel valued. my team constantly as about my progress and praise for any good work
The apprenticeship programme is very well structured. I get my time off for my release days, plus any extra needed for trips etc. I had a good induction into the workplace and was assigned a buddy who helped me get used to the company and also the programme structure. i have meetings with my line manager often to ensure i am up to date with work and having all the support i need.
Kingston are good and they are always contactable by email. the lectures are useful also
As said before my teach are very good for checking though my coursework etc and helping with any university stuff i need help with
My salary is low at the moment but is being reviewed. if my travel wasn't as expensive it maybe easier to manage costs.
I have been involved in the women in property through university which has been challenging.
Yes
The work place is a nice environment to work in and the people are very helpful especially for people of a lower training level.
confidence is key, also you need to be self motivated, as for work as sometime things are busy and unless you are proactive and ask your learning may not be as impartial as it could be
