  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being an Incident Manager for RBS acts as a facilitator for the technical and business resources involved in a Priority 1 and Priority 2 incidents. Initially it’s the Incident Managers job to engage with the correct resources in order to understand the impact of the issue. The Incident Manager will oversee this incident until it’s resolved therefore they would update the wider technology teams/stakeholders of any updates and this is usually done through alerts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes definitely not only do the apprenticeship provider support development however RBS as a company are very focussed on developing their employees. My overall technical knowledge has expanded and I feel more comfortable engaging with technical teams as I feel more knowledgable. The courses are delivered in a way where every apprentice is able to understand. Also extra support is always available if required.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The overall programme is an enjoyable experience, not only do you have the opportunity to meet new people however you are constantly learning new things every day. Also within RBS once you complete your programme they are fully supportive and encourage their employees to develop their skills/knowledge further if it’s something they want to do.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • RBS is a great company to work for as they treat all their employees equally whether they are an apprentice/graduate or a regular employee. I always felt valued within RBS as I was made to feel welcome and they always seek new ideas/solutions from their apprentices. They value all their employees idea’s and always look to improve things upon feedback.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is delivered in a way that suits each invididual to an extent. Within RBS all apprentices work different days and hours therefore the assessors give the apprentice different dates in regards to attending mandatory in house training. This is good as you are able to plan ahead and doesn’t cause too much distruption to your work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider are very helpful and are always more than happy to provide extra support when needed. Each apprentice has a dedicated assessor which is great as they are available whenever required too. They are always happy to help in regards to coursework and always give constructive feedback. They give suggestions on how things like your essay writing can be improved etc.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • RBS are very supportive and they are very involved in regards to your own personal development. They always encourage apprentices to set time aside each week where you solely focus on completing your coursework which is required. They are also very helpful when it comes to completing your coursework as they give you suggestions. They give apprentices opportunities to attend extra courses too if they wish.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • RBS give their apprentices a very attractive salary along with many other benefits. Also depending how you are performing within your role this can increase too. RBS definitely go beyond my expectations as typically most apprenticeships are very low paid. Also RBS give all their employees including apprentices to take advantage of many discounts and benefits.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As mentioned before RBS give their apprentices opportunities to expand their knowledge and develop new skills. They are fully supportive if an apprentice wants to explore different avenues within the business as a whole too. There are opportunities where you can oversee how/what different departments do, this is good as it gives you an insight on how different teams operate.

  • Yes

  • As overall RBS is brilliant company to work for as they promote a health work life balance. There are several advantages of being an RBS employee not only because of the salary/benefits they offer but also they offer flexible working hours, opportunities to work from home too. Also as mentioned previously there are many opportunities to develop your knowledge and great career development opportunities too.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • To have an understanding of RBS before applying also the RBS recruitment team are very helpful if you require more information in regards to the role.
