My roles is a maintenace engineer in the press shop at plant swindon. My day to day role involves carrying around a breakdown phone and going to press lines that have broken down. A line leader will send the job out to the IFS system which will then link to my phone so i can respond as quickly as possible. Also my job can involve other projects that my managers and planners will set out for me.
I have developed thousands of skills throughout the 4 years and learnt most of these at my first year of college that took place at Swindon college. I have also done various courses at the plant that involved ladder training, working at height, first aid course, confined spaces.
I have enjoyed my apprenticeship and have really excelled my knowledged and opened up new avenues in my career. The apprenticeship has really boosted my confidence with work and making me feel valued and useful in the workplace.
At BMW group i feel like i am treated very well and valued by not only my managers by my colleagues too.
The programme is well structured as in your first year you are at college 5 days a week so this gets you prepared for working on the plant by giving you corse skills and a basic understanding of engineering. Then the last 3 years are still doing coursework but also working on the plant so you are constanly learning whilst working and getting paid.
My training provider gives me support when needed and also checks up on me once a month for a review to see how im getting on.
Same as the training provider i always have support when needed and am checked up on to see if everything is going okay.
The salary we are provided with is good as at the start you are paid to go to college which is a massive bonus as you are beingt paid to learn in a job you want to do. As the years progress the salary increases until you are on around 32500 and can earn extra with shift pay and overtime. They also offer a good pension scheme and car scheme so there are more benefits that just money.
There are always opportunities outside of work aswell at BMW as you can attend school events and promote the apprenticeship to young children and influence them for their futures. You can also work abroad if you are lucky and take your skills to another country.
Yes
I would reccomend this comapny to a friend because they are a hard working company that provide a top apprenticehip and pay well. They will look after you from the second you join to the second you leave. The car scheme is alwasy a masssive plus too as you can get a BMW brand new for a fair price each month.
Ensure that your CV is very well presented as first impressions mean alot when there are thousands of applicants. If you are at school try and take an engineering course as an optoion as this will aid you massively when it comes to the selection process.
