  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My overall job role is a mechanical and electrical maintenace engineer. I help to maintain the machinery and equipment involved in the process of pressing and sub-assembled panels for the Mini UK. The responsibilities i own include reacting to breakdown announcments as quick as possible, installing and testing new systems and maintaining the systems when in used in produciton. I often get involved in projects such as refurbishments, new delevelopments with robots, etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since the first year I have gain a level two and three BTEC engineering in addition to level two and three NVQ. I also have the opportunity to gain a HNC and HND in the future. Knowing that there are many more opportunites to discover encourages me to work harder and to continue to develop new skils and improve o those I have an understanding of.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • When leaving school, I chased for the best programme to suit me and the future I dreamed of having. The program I am involved in (Trailblazer) provides me with the qualifications I was lookng to achieve and more, which is fantastic. Having an apprenticship with BMW Group has allowed me to continue pursuing my dream and provided me with more goals to achieve in the future.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • As an apprentice I am vauled by BMW Group as future material. As the apprenticeship moves on, I gain more respect and trust from others around the work place and thus given more jobs to complete and increase my knowledge and understanding of the job's roles and responsibilites whilst gaining and further developing my skills.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is structured and relatively easy to follow. However, there have been one or two hickups through out the years. The issues are being ironed out and the training department are continuing to do so to improve the apprenticeships for the future. The structure has been vastly improved by our new NVQ assessor.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Through out the first year, the support from our training provider was great as our first year consists of five days of college a week. As the apprenticeship moves on, we are not as connected as the first year due to working placements. However, they are available to be contacted thorugh email and phone relatively easily.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer is very supportive both with college work and working placements. During the first year, I was able to get additional tution which really benefitted me.

  • the salary is good for my age and gives me more opportunites than other companies possible would

  • yes, mountain challenge, skern lodge. team development sites to take part in .

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Having an apprenticeship in an industry your interested in really helps with jump starting your career. However, having had an apprenticeship with BMW Group for threes now I understand that it is possible to imagine your future in multiple directions. The amount of varieties and different skills to learn from that you can take else where is mind blowing.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • When applying to BMW Group, study the basic tools and equipment that workshops may use on a day to day basis. Find ways of building up confidence in your self for the interviewing process
