I am a electrical-mechanical maintenance apprentice which involves; first year at college doing an advanced level 3 engineering course, second year 1 day a week at college continuing the course while working and ythen 3rd and 4th year are on site learning skills that you'll use when out of your time, shadowing skilled men, and aiding them in daily tasks.
I have both developed on my existing knowledge and skills, learning new thigns everday and gaining confidence, you can also use the new skills in day to day life at home etc.
I enjpoy the apprenticehsip alot, i very much enjoy the normal day to tday work whilst on site learning new skills, less so the paperwork side of things but thats okay too if you stay ontop of it.
I feel valued from my managers in each placement, i work hard and they can see that so if you work hard you will feel valued however if you arent seen to be working hard then obviously you wont. I get asked to help out with tasks also.
The apprenticeship on thge whole is well organised however we were the first year to run this type of apprenticeship so there were a few issues however i belieev these have been ironed out for the years prior.
The support from my training supervisor is there if you need it, we have regular meetings to discuss progress and can highlight any issues there, you can always contact via phone and email also inbetween these meetings if any issues arise.
Again the support is there if you so desire it, if you are strugggling or if you want to achieve more or want to do more jobs etc, then all you need to do is speak to your manager and they will get it sorted, when ive asked things of my managers previously they get sorted otu quickly.
The salary is extremely good for an apprenticeship, there are regular pay rises (every 6 months) so if you thing the starting wage is a little low, it goes up before you know it and by the 4th year you will be on 24/25 thousand which is very good for someone of general apprentice age.
The opportuinites are these if so desired, there is a trip to skern lodge in the 1st year to gel with the other apprentices and have a good time doing tasks such as archery, rockclimbing etc. Mountain challenge which is where you and a group of others climb a pre determined mountain attaining checkpoints which is a really good weekend camping etc.
Yes
You learn a very good set of skills that you will keep with you forever, a valuable trade working for a very well run, safe, secure and succuseful company while earning very good moiney with the opportunity of learning alot more skills and traveling etc.
You have to have the right knowledge and skills etc however it is also very important how you come across and how the managers can see you intergrating into the company so ensure that you come across well, passionate about the industry and wanting to do well.
