Maintenance Engineer Review

I'm an Apprentice Elect-Mech Engineer, my daily task's involve maintaining the all the running equipment on in my designated building, the building I work in is Sub-Assembly, so my job Involve's maintaining all the equipment in Robot Cell's, carrying out preventative maintenance measures when production isn't running, but when production is running, I attend breakdown's this is when the a Robot cell stops operating due to a fault, I need to find out what the fault is and rectify it so the cell may continue running.

During my Apprenticeship I have learnt many skills from doing electrical and mechanical work, gaining competence in both these field's but also in computer programming also from courses in PLC programming. Whilst carrying out my main Qualification's this being my Level 3 NVQ, I have also been allowed to do a HNC in Engineering aswell, allowing me to gain an even higher qualification by the time I finish my apprenticeship, which I can then progress even further by doing a HND after the appreticeship and even potentially go on to do a bachelor's Degree.

I enjoy working for BMW Group because there is not only a sense of pride from working for such prestiguous company who rewards hard work, but also because the work truly does feel rewarding when you accomplish something, and also when working with such as tight nit team, who are there to assist your in your progression throughout the years really help's progress your education and want to further your knowledge more.

I feel like I'm a an important member of the team here at BMW, when a manager ask's you to carry out a task they're really appreciative of you carrying out your hard work. I feel proud to work for such a prestiguous company which is globally recognised, I feel like a valued member of BMW group.

The training throughout the years have gone through several changes throughout due to problems with communication between the college and the company, meaning there have been times where we have been lacking in training and had to make up for it by ourselves, however ever since it has been doing nothing but continuously improving throughout the year's.

MY training advisor started around the same time as us and they have been nothing but amazing since we first started, they have provided some much support throughtout the year's providing us with any extra training I needed and helped me with any problem's that I've encountered on the way, there door has alway's been open for advice on problem's and assisted me on helping resolve them. They have alway's made sure to be as available possible to provide support whenever we needed it.

The company has provided support throughout the year's, however I do believe there are some improvement's which need to be made in order to improve the on site training, this being more job's for apprentices to work on so they have a broader spectrum of knowledge on all the equipment used on site.

BMW are an Amazing employer when it comes to apprenticeship wages, they pay way above the appretice minimum wage to a more appropriate living wage, meaning the daily costs and travel costs to work are no problem at all. The location of site is quite easy to get to making it a short drive to work with little to no traffic.

BMW are trying to get knowledge of there apprenticeships out there, there are School events in which apprentices attend and help advertise the apprentice, letting school children know that going to College and University isn't your only option after finishing school. However I do believe is more which could be outside of work, such as event's that BMW associates can attend, such a Sports club to help get their name out there.

BMW is an good employer who not only pay's a good wage for an apprenticeship, but also opens up a world of oppurtunities after your apprenticeship, providing you with an ever improving education, expanding your learning experience and earning whilst you do so.

My advice would be, have patience as the Application process can seem long and potentially daunting, which may seem never ending but it show's how badly you want the job, as there are several stages throughout the application process where you would get sent a series of test's, which I believe that you should prepare for if you pass to the first stage. I believe it is also helpful to apply to get some work experience so you know what the job is potentially like before you are thinking of applying, work experience also helps increase your hireablity, as if you leave a last impression and seem keen whilst on your work experience, associates will remember you.
