Store Apprentice Review

I am a store apprentice within Aldi I regularly work the morning shift normally doing the bread or short life chilled deliveries which i enjoy on a day to day basis. I interact with the public daily when on the tills and have a great working the relationship with the rest of my colleagues, who have really made me feel welcome.

I have become better at time management and have become more confident around new people. At the stage I am now at in my apprenticeship I am learning new skills daily as my manager entrusts me with more responsibility.

The work is much more physical and fast paced than what I expected when I first joined however I feel that the team have welcomed me with open arms which makes me feel more confident and makes an enjoyable environment to work in.

I have monthly updates with my manager where we discuss how I am progressing within the company. When I have carried out any extra duties (for example taking on extra shifts) my manager is always saying how much he appreciates it. I feel that recently that my manager has started to give me more responsibilities which makes me feel valued

It got off to a slow start as there was a change to the company providing the training which delayed my off the job training, however it is now back on track and my tutor is in for a regular meeting with me. I also get homework tasks to complete on my own. I now feel also that I get the opportunity in store to do much more than just be on a till.

My tutor visits regularly to discuss the course with me. There is also a website I can access where there is a forum where I can discuss any issues I have. If I have anything I need help with I can contact my tutor directly, and he is always happy to help.

I get a lot of support from everyone in the team. If I have any questions I can approach any of the managers who are happy to help me. The team are all very approachable and I feel I have built a good working relationship with the full team.

I live at home with my parents at the moment and I find the salary for an apprentice quite generous in comparison to others. I am currently paying for driving lessons while training and feel that the salary provided makes this affordable for me, while still allowing me to have money left over for myself even after paying for my daily lunches.

There is the chance to participate in charity events throughout the year, and I have also played for the store, with some of my colleagues in a football tournament, to raise money for TEENAGE CANCER TRUST

Aldi are a good company to work for. There are opportunities if you want to further your career. The pay is very rewarding, and it feels like a big family.

Make sure that in your interview you come across well, be prepared to work very hard, be confident in your work trial, make sure you ask questions both in the interview and at your work trial. Be prepared to be flexible in your approach to work and your availablity.
