  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I am given a really varied range of work which also includes being invited to client meetings. I am given a lot of responsibility for my first year but also guided whenever I am needed. You are left to complete the work yourself and manage your time yourself rather than being told what to do everyday.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my first year i have learnt a lot of new skills including how to interect with clients face to face/on the phone as well as the professional qualifications. I have also improved on my computer/IT skills greatly. Each new piece of work that you are given includes things that you havent seen before so you are constantly learning.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • EY makes an effort to make sure you feel valued by including you in as many client meetings/tasks as they can and ensuring that your input is listened to. You can also be involved in a number of extr curricular activities from the first day that you start.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As there is quite a few people starting in the same intake as you there is a strict structure for the programme with set dates for training, college, exams etc which is good as it means you get to stay within your year group as you progress. However, i think it would be good if there were options for some people to accelerate their course if selected by their counsellors.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider is Kaplan and so far we have only had 9 days of college and one exam with them however they have regularly sent emails with updates and study tips/timetables to make sure we keep up to date with studies even while we are not at college. There is also an email which you can email at any point during the year with any questions that you may have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When you join you will be allocated a buddy and a counsellor who are there for any day to day questions you may have. As they are usually on your team you see them nearly every day and therefore build up a good relationship with them meaning it is easy to ask them for help if needed. The rest of the team are also extremely friendly and would be happy for you to ask them any question work related or not at any time.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As i live with my parents the salary is okay for me however i can imagine if living on your own it would be a little tighter. As the salary increases yearly it is less of an issue because you know you will be earning more as time goes by. The location of the Reading office is great as it has many transport links very near.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a large number of events outside of work that you can get involved in if you wish.. For example there is a football team and lots of charity things to take part in. Individual teams also often organise socials and drinks and are always open to new ideas.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • yes, as the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming and you are always learning new skills. You are also always kept involved and not treated as a first year.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be yourself - the assessors can tell when you arent and will pick up on it. Dont focus on trying to be the loudest most confident person as that is not what they are looking for. Always think outside the box.
