  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I mostly shadowed, which I found really interesting. I was in press meetings, an awareness session, a conference call and I was completing my presentation while doing this, when I had free time. I also had introductions to public relations (PR), internal communication and real estate PR. This gave me a better understanding of how the department, I was assigned to, worked. I didn't really have a job title and just shadowed, but I think I learnt a lot from it. I had a lot of independence and I did my presentation everyday. Everyone was very friendly and if I was unsure of something they were very easy to talk and ask questions to.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I now think that I have learnt quite a lot about external and internal communications. Furthermore, I have learnt a bit more about office life and I think that this will have a positive impact on the future career I choose. I have learnt about public relations and real estate PR too. Skills I think I have developed would be, confidence and maybe even public speaking. Being in this new environment with new people gave me the opportunity to speak to people despite being a shy at first.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall, I found this week very interesting while I was shadowing. Everyone was very nice and easy to talk and ask questions to. The environment of the team was extremely friendly, and despite everyone being quite smart and professional, there was still an element of calmness and enjoyment. However, at points I didn't really have much to do due to most of the team being busy, which was very understandable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • I feel that the people that I had sessions with were very engaged and were checking that I understood what they were saying. They asked me whether I had any questions and explained everything in detail. Despite being very descriptive, they made sure to simplify what they said so I could understand about their work. At the end of the week, I had to complete and present my presentation and a few members of the team helped my and gave me advise on things I could improve.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In my opinion, everything was quite well organised. I was given a timetable which was clear, and easy to understand. However, a couple of my tasks got cancelled, but they were very apologetic about it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel as if I had a lot of support. They made sure I understood everything, they also asked if I had any questions and made it clear that I could ask them tasks or information I was unsure about. If I didn't understand something they didn't get frustrated with me and explained what I didn't know. They also showed me around.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • AS I said before, everyone was very kind and I did receive a lot of help if I needed it. However, they were quite busy which was understandable since they were working.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • They offered to pay for our lunch, travel and living costs if we weren't staying at home. I though all of this was very kind and would have expected them to pay for all of this but I think this was something that I liked about M&G. They're very generous.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • When I wasn't working, I was just doing my presentation for the end of the week. However we were taken on a City Orientation walk. They also helped with our CV and career options.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think this is a fantastic opportunity which my friends would enjoy. in my opinion, they would learn a lot and just has it helped me with what I choose for my future career, I believe it will help them too. They would have a enjoyable time which at the end they could put on their CVs.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • On your application, you need to be honest and explain how it would benefit you. They need to explain how it would personally benefit them rather than it looking good on paper (CV).
